The game day for the players will be their most exciting day of the week. In reality it is a way for us as coaches to educate the players and give them the opportunity to develop the skills they have learned during the week, in a fun game day scenario. As coaches we must always remember that the result of the game is not important. The amount of goals that go in are not important. What is important is that the kids are having fun and learning and developing as new soccer players.
Gameday Rules;
· 5 Players per side
· No Goalkeeper
· 4 periods of 10 minutes
· Regular substitutions every 2 or 3 minutes
· Goal kicks, corners and throw -ins will be played, ensuring that coaches show the correct technique for all.
· When the opposing team have a goal kick, the team must return to the halfway line.
Most importantly coaches, we must reinforce the positive things we see during the games. If a player does a pull back, shows their speed dribble, or moves into space rather than following the soccer ball like a ‘bee hive’, we positively reinforce that.
